Man dies after being hit by car in Hemsworth

A man has died after being hit by a car in Hemsworth.

A 64-year-old man ws arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care in connection with the collision and has now been bailed pending continuing enquiries.

The incident took place at about 6.20pm on Saturday on Wakefield Road at its junction with Station Road, near to the George and Dragon pub.

A silver Skoda Octavia was travelling towards Hemsworth from Station Road when it hit the 52-year-old man, who was crossing from Wakefield Road towards the pub.

Emergency services attended the scene but despite their best efforts the man died at the scene.

A road closure was put in place while investigation work was carried out and the road was later reopened.

Sergeant Ann Drury of the Major Collision Enquiry Team said: “I would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision or the manner in which the car was being driven beforehand or indeed anyone who saw the pedestrian walking on Wakefield Road before the collision took place.”
