A man jumped from a window to escape a house blaze in Wakefield last night (Tuesday).

Fire crews from Wakefield and Normanton were called to Anderton Street at around 7.40pm.

When they arrived, they found a first floor bedroom ablaze.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the 35-year-old man had escaped before firefighters arrived and had sustained burns in the fire.
