Motorists face delays while contractors repair Leeds motorway bridge columns

Motorists could face months of disruption while work takes place to repair columns on a motorway bridge near Leeds.

Around five months of essential maintenance work will start on Monday on the support columns for a bridge which carries the M62 over the A162 at junction 33, near Ferrybridge.

Contractors for Highways England will remove and replace some of the columns on the bridge and carrying out extensive concrete repairs to the column in the central reservation on the A162.

The A162 will be closed in both directions at the junction and a short diversion during the work, which is expected to be completed in May.

Highways England project manager Tim Calvert said: “We understand that this will cause some disruption for motorists who use the A162 but it is necessary to enable this essential maintenance work to be carried out.”

Motorists will be diverted off the exit slip roads and then back on the entry slip roads at the roundabout.
