Mountain of waste reduced- company gets its licence back

Noble Waste Treatment will once again be able to take waste onto its Thornes Lane Wharf site after the Environment Agency (EA) reinstated its environmental permit.

The EA said the company had its permit partially suspended earlier this month.

Claire Dickinson, environment management team leader at the Environment Agency, said: “The Environment Agency took the action of partially suspending Noble Waste Treatment’s permit in order to prevent the waste from posing a risk to the environment and the local community.

“Since then, the company has responded quickly and it has taken positive steps to reduce the waste kept on the site, and to introduce measures that will reduce the risk of a major fire occurring.

“We will continue to work closely with Noble Waste Treatment to ensure that their Wakefield operation continues to improve.”

The Environment Agency added the firm has also improved fire safety around the site
