That’s the question being batted back and forth by politicians up and down the country ahead of the crucial European Union membership referendum.

And Morley and Outwood MP Andrea Jenkyns is hoping to sway public opinion when she takes to the district’s streets for a rally on Saturday.

She will be campaigning for Britain to leave the EU alongside Morley Borough Independent Councillor Robert Finnigan and demonstrators outside Morley Town Hall.

Speaking last week, Ms Jenkyns said: “For over four decades we have been silenced and at last we are to have a vote to be able to decide on our relationship with the EU.

“It is clear from negotiations that our partners in Europe have been unwilling to recognise the strength of feeling in the United Kingdom that we are not well-served by the European status quo of unelected, unaccountable government in Brussels.”

The referendum, which takes place on June 23, will ask voters in Britain: “Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?”

Ms Jenkyns’ planned rally comes after she carried out an e-mail poll to see how many of the people she asked would vote to leave the EU.

She says that 69 per cent of the 508 people who responded to the poll backed her call for an EU exit.

According to Ms Jenkyns the majority of those involved the poll were residents in her Morley and Outwood constituency.

She said: “I’m delighted that a vote to Leave the European Union enjoys such strong support.

“This decision is for the public, not Members of Parliament and they have shown they are strongly in favour of taking back control.”

Ms Jenkyns’ EU rally will take place on Saturday, outside Morley Town Hall from 9.30am-10.30pm.
