Stallholders were expected to move to the Ridings over the summer after Wakefield Council agreed to sell the market to the owners of Trinity Walk for a cinema development.

Negotiations have not been resolved and a planning application for the cinema - expected seven months ago - has not been submitted.

Moorfield Group is also reportedly in talks to sell the Ridings to a company called New River Retail.

Industry publication Property Week also claimed there was an earlier deal - which fell through - to sell the Ridings to Orion Capital Partners - which owns Trinity Walk, along with the planned cinema development.

“Moorfield never comments on press speculation,” said a spokesman.

Ridings manager Eileen Holroyd said: “We can confirm that despite delays, we are still involved in discussions about Wakefield Market.

“More details will be shared once negotiations have been completed and decisions made.”
