One minute's silence for victims of Nice terror attack

Wakefield Council is inviting people to come together this morning to pay their respect to the victims and those who were injured.

News of the 84 deaths at the Bastille celebrations in Nice yesterday has deeply moved people across the world.

Coun Peter Box, leader of the council, said: “Our thoughts and sincere sympathies are with the people of France who have been affected by yet another terrible tragedy.

“This was an appalling attack and on behalf of the people of Wakefield I would like to offer our sincere condolences to the families of the people who died, and our prayers for those who were injured.”

Mayor of Wakefield Coun Harry Ellis will lead the silence at 11am at the War Memorial opposite County Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The tribute comes after the council showed their support for those affected by the Paris terror attacks last November.

The town hall clock tower was lit up in red, white and blue, the colours of the country’s flag.
