My most fun engagement recently was on Friday, when, along with Chris Hale, I hosted a Zoom quiz at Wakefield Hospice. Chris Hale lives in Wakefield and he was a quarter finalist on MasterChef. We set 15 questions each, his section was food and drink and mine was baking. We both did a specialist round too, mine was Great British Bake Off and his was MasterChef. I think it is quite hard setting quiz questions as they need to be pitched just right, not too easy that everyone gets everything correct, but not so hard that nobody knows many answers.

Here are some of the questions, I will tell you the answers next week, no Google allowed!

1 What are the triangular breadcakes that are popular in Castleford and Featherstone called? 2 How do you stop cherries from sinking during baking (in cake batter)? 3 What bread became popular in Lockdown? 4 Which pastry is used in Pork Pies? 5 Who replaced Sandy Toksvig in GBBO? 6 Which country does John Torode come from? 7 What type of bean is used in baked beans? 8 Mozzarella is made from the milk of which animal? 9 Bobotie is the national dish of which country?

10 What is the most expensive spice in the world per gram?

I had a surprise when I recognised one of last year’s GBBO contestants, Phil Thorne and his family, in a quiz team. He came in second. I made a Christmas cake as one prize and there was gin and wine too. A great way to raise much needed funds to keep the hospice running during difficult times. I’m looking forward to a few days away. I am taking my mam to Abingdon and a nice-looking hotel on the riverside. I am looking forward to time with her, and being catered for, and will be reporting on my trip. I may squeeze in a recipe, the weather has got a bit chillier so it might be a hearty casserole, Goulash anyone? www.karenwrightbakes.co.uk
