Before she diverts money from local schools, road repairs, flood defences or other essential services into ‘fighting climate change’, would she first meet local people who question this approach?
Climate change is a complex issue and there are many questions to answer. Is the world warming at a dangerous rate? Are all the effects of warming negative? Is CO2 responsible? If so, how much? And, most importantly, what can and should Wakefield Council do about it?
Given the awful experience of some people during the recent floods, I’m sure that most people think that resources should be put into protecting people and homes from flooding.
Changing the world’s climate sounds grand, but it doesn’t help real people who are dealing with real problems. I would be happy to arrange a meeting with Coun Jeffrey. I wonder if she will take up the offer.
