Ossett firm helps Wakefield Hospice

The 16 members of staff spent two days at the hospice separating, grading and sorting through hundreds of items donated by local people

Many of the volunteers spent their time sorting through piles of clothes and books in the charity’s warehouse in Thornes, ready for selling in the hospice’s six charity shops while others sorted through older stock in the shops. One member of the team helped out with deliveries and collections.

Lucy Normanton, HR manager, said: “We’re passionate about the charities and communities we support and are always glad to do our bit. Everyone who gave their time said what a fantastic experience it was. The hospice is such a worthwhile cause and makes such a huge difference to local families; it was heartening to see how well supported it is with donations by local people.”

Horizon Platforms, on Roundwood Industrial Estate, regularly supports the hospice with fundraising days and events, and donates money very time its charity-branded scissor lift is hired out.

Elaine King, volunteer services manager at the hospice, said: “As well as a great team of dedicated staff, the hospice relies heavily on an army of volunteers and supporters. Every hour of time given and each penny donated makes a big difference to our patients and their relatives and I want to say a huge thank you to Horizon Platforms for its continued support.”
