But with Tier 2 restrictions currently in place across the Wakefield district, some of the usual activities might not be an option. We've put together a list of 14 of the best half term activities across Wakefield and the Five Towns this October. Some attractions may need to be booked in advance.
9. Take a swim
Many of Wakefield's gyms and fitness centres have now reopened to the public, with a variety of options, including swimming, available to book. Visit sports.wakefield.gov.uk/Horizons/sports to find out more or book today.
10. Farmer Copleys
If you're hoping to get into the Halloween spirit this October, look no further than Farmer Copleys. The family-run farm, between Pontefract and Featherstone, offers visitors their choice of more than 130,000 pumpkins, as well as a selection of spooky entertainment. Tickets must be booked in advance.
11. Thornes Park
A favourite with families, Thornes Park offers acres of land to explore, as well as an ever-popular children's play area. If you're looking for something a little more laid back, try and park's walled gardens, or take a stroll down to the duck pond.
12. The Addy
The Old Quarry Adventure Playground, known locally as The Addy, offers free and open-access play for children and young people aged 5 to 19. Roaring fires and autumnal activities will be on offer throughout half term. Sessions should be booked in advance.
