A special delivery of Easter eggs was made to the children’s ward and creche at Pinderfields Hospital

The Mayor of Wakefield joined teamed up with Wakefield Street Kitchen (WSK) and The Real Junk Food Project (TRJFP) to make sure a donation of eggs from Wilko was made in time for Easter.

Anna Hopward of WSK had the idea , who, along with other volunteers, has been making and delivering meals to 130 hospital staff and 20 homeless people every day for the past three weeks, using food donated to TRJFP by Wilko and other suppliers, distributors and retailers.

Anna, team leader at WSK, said: “When I heard that Wilko had donated a pallet of Easter eggs to The Real Junk Food Project I knew we could do something to bring some joy to the children on the ward and in the staff creche at Pinderfields over the Easter weekend.

The Mayor of Wakefield, Coun Charlie Keith, said: “At a time when people are being confined to home and no visiting the hospital is allowed, I appreciate the sentiment and all the selfless work and care the Wakefield Street Kitchen undertakes week in, week out.

“So, I called upon all my contacts within the healthcare community to help risk assess and create a safe environment where this act of true kindness could take place.

“I thank all those involved. It is a pleasure to work alongside you.
