Adventures begin again with socially distanced fun at The Addy

The Old Quarry Adventure Play Area – better known as The Addy – has reopened for socially distanced fun.

Staff at the centre said children had been deprived of enjoyment during lockdown and this was a big step in getting things back on track.

Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford MP Yvette Cooper said: “It’s great that the Addy has been able to set up outdoor activities throughout the summer to enable kids to have some fun.

“Kids have had a tough time over the last few months and really need a good summer. “And we’ve managed to get our Knottingley community books set up at the Addy too so there are free books available all summer. Everyone at the Addy has done an amazing job over the last few months supporting local families.”

Melanie Robinson, strategic lead planning and service development for Wakefield Council, said: “ Funding awarded by the local authority through the More Money in my Pocket, Our Family Our Future Initiative to Old Quarry Adventure playground has really brought a smile to both parents and children’s faces as they accessed all the outdoor play and learning opportunities available on our visit.

“Big Congratulations to the whole staff team for making this a possibility at this difficult time.”
