Affordable homes planned in £2million street revamp

Seventeen affordable new homes are being proposed by Wakefield District Housing as part of a £2 million re-development scheme.

Plans show the properties will be built on land at Albany Crescent in South Elmsall.

Planning permission was given earlier this year to bulldoze existing the even numbered flats from 14 to 48 on the street, with hopes of replacing them with family homes.

The old flats were given planning approval in 1978.

Sue Young, director of development at WDH, previously told the Express: “There has been significant regeneration in South Elmsall and we want to make sure that the properties we own support these regeneration efforts.

“We hope to build a number of high-quality, family homes, investing over £2 million in the development.

A decision on the latest application will be made by Wakefield Council’s planning department at a later date.
