Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, hopes the #BecauseYou mural will help commemorate the global pandemic and its impact on everyday life.

Working with Stoke-on-Trent manufacturing business The Surface Design Studio, they plan to install a 1000 tile mural in the hospital, with hundreds of images representing life at the hospital and across the district during lockdown.

Keith Ramsay, Chair of The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust and MY Hospitals Charity said: “The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is very excited to be a part of this brilliant project.

"The mural will be an emotive reminder of the hard work, dedication and solidarity of our colleagues and community during a difficult time.

"We chose to display the mural in an area of the Trust our staff and the public can easily visit to take a moment to pay their respect and reflect should they wish to."

Members of the public are now being asked to submit their own photos to be included in the mural. These can include photos of loved ones, NHS heroes, pieces of art, images that depict the lockdown experience, or simply images that make them smile.

Submitting an image costs £18, which includes a donation to the MY Hospitals Charity, the mural tile and a copy of the tile to keep at home.
