'Disappointment' as popular Wakefield night run cancelled due to fears over Storm Dennis

A popular Wakefield night run has been cancelled just three days before it was due to take place.

The National Trust said they had taken the decision to cancel the night run at Nostell to help protect their parkland, as well as keep runners, volunteers and staff safe.

The run had been expected to take place in the grounds of the estate on Saturday evening, with a 3.5 km Explorer or 7km Adventurer route available. It had sold out in advance.

It comes as Storm Dennis is set to batter the Wakefield district, with yellow warnings for wind and rain on Saturday.

Announcing the cancellation on social media, Nostell said they would be in touch with all affected runners to provide additional details, including ticket refunds.

The statament read: "With #stormdennis on its way, there’s a forecast yellow wind and rain warning on Saturday for Nostell.

"We’ve taken the decision to cancel the Night Run event, which was planned for Saturday 15 February to keep runners, volunteers and staff safe and to protect the historic parkland.

"We’re looking at alternative dates in the near future and will be in touch directly with booked runners in the next couple of days with more information including ticket refunds.

"We’re disappointed the event won’t take place this weekend but feel this is the right decision for all involved."
