Explore becoming a bus driver at Castleford fun day
People in Castleford will be able to get behind the wheel and experience bus driving firsthand, as well as exploring other exciting careers, at a free family fun day next week.
Leading training provider Realise has organised the event at Castleford Tigers’ OneBore Stadium on Wednesday, May 27 from 10am to 3pm.
As well as exploring a wide range of career opportunities, there will be children's activities, food and entertainment, including an interactive dance session led by Castleford Tigers' cheerleaders.
Visitors will be able to try driving the Realise bus in a safe environment and under the instruction of qualified trainers, including reversing manoeuvres.
Those ready to take the next step to becoming a bus or coach driver will be able to sign up to Realise’s Route to Success course, equipping them with the information and initial training to prepare for a successful new career.
People will also be able to learn about the full range of fully funded adult skills courses offered in West Yorkshire, including Preparing to Work in Schools, Teaching Assistant, Essential Digital Skills, Functional Maths and English, CCTV Operator and Security Industry Authority.
Meanwhile, representatives from the Fire Service, Police and Army will be present at the OneBore Stadium to promote uniformed career opportunities while promoting social cohesion.
Aimee Mcvittie, Performance Manager of Passenger Transport at Realise, said: “We are delighted to be running this exciting community event in conjunction with Castleford Tigers and Arriva.
“We have a large area available for the hands-on driving opportunity so people can get a flavour of life as a professional driver.
“We’ll also be able to advise on many other exciting opportunities, helping people to either enter the workforce for the first time or re-skill into new industries.
“There will be plenty for children to enjoy too, with games on the 3G pitch, rugby challenges and sweet treats.
“This is about bringing the community together and inspiring the people of West Yorkshire to think about new opportunities.”
Adult education in West Yorkshire is fully funded and tailored to learner needs. Realise offers courses across Huddersfield, Bradford, Halifax, Leeds and Wakefield.
