Yorkshire Water’s key workers were called and arrived on scene to carefully dig around the unit and free the hedgehog into the care of the RSPCA.

The hedgehog was uninjured and after a short stay with the RSPCA is now back in his garden home in Wakefield.

John Fletcher, the Yorkshire Water field technician who carried out the rescue, said: “It was clear when we arrived that the hedgehog had become scared, making it more difficult to free him by lifting him out.

“Thankfully we were able to dig around the unit, remove it completely and release him. It’s been a great outcome for everyone involved and I’m glad the hedgehog is back home safe and sound.”
