Construction of the £21 million leisure centre began in March 2019, and is expected to finish later this year. These photos give you a sneak peak at the building, and show how far the site, at Pontefract Park, has come in just 10 months.
5. Taking shape
As well as the building, work was carried out in September to excavate the swimming pool. In late October, the pool was accidentally flooded with 1.5 million litres of water due to a burst pipe. Photo: Wakefield Council
6. Community spirit
As construction continued, more than 30 pupils from St Giles C of E Academy were invited to visit the site, where they were offered the opportunity to sign their names onto the building's foundations. Photo: John Clifton
7. Towering structure
Steel framework gave passersby an idea of the scale of the building. As well as a 115-station gym, the Leisure Hub will include a 10 lane swimming pool and a full size 3G artificial pitch. Photo: Wakefield Council
8. High employment
At peak, up to 100 people are expected to be employed on the site, as work is carried out to fit the inside of the building. Photo: John Clifton
