The parade brought dance groups, performers and community organisations onto the streets of Normanton and Altofts before the celebrations continued at Haw Hill Park.
Normanton and Hemsworth MP Jon Trickett said: “I was privileged to attend the Normanton Gala at Haw Hill Park this past weekend, where community groups showcased thier talents and there were funfair rides, community stalls and attractions for everyone to enjoy
Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley MP Yvette Cooper, whose constituency used to include Normanton before boundary changes, said it was “another brilliant day”.
She said: “Great Normanton & Altofts Gala parade this morning. Well done to all the dance clubs, cadets, scouts, sports and drama clubs who walked all the way from Altofts to Haw Hill Park with the Mayor - and to all the parents and volunteers who organised them (especially everyone who put together the brilliant Dance House Willy Wonka costumes).
“Thank you to Normanton Town Council for organising another brilliant day for the whole community to come together.”
The weekend included live entertainment, fairground attractions, food and drink, stalls and activities for families, with Saturday evening rounded off by a fireworks display.
The event brought together community groups, performers, businesses and residents for one of Normanton's biggest annual celebrations.
Organisers thanked everyone who helped put the weekend together and those who came along to support the gala.
