'It's got to be a wind up' - confusion as bizarre Wakefield waxwork museum page pops up on Facebook

Dickinsons of Lupset Waxworks claims to be the official Facebook page for Wakefield s very own waxworks museum, which it describes as: "The best little waxworks in the best little city on earth."

But inconsistencies and mistakes on the page have led to it widely being declared a hoax.

The Facebook page for the museum was created last week, and since has been flooded with posts and photos suggesting it will open at a new address in Horbury Bridge on Monday, May 17.

Among the waxworks featured on the page are likenesses of Noel Edmonds, Rowan Atkinson, Jedward and Tom Cruise.

However, the page is riddled with spelling errors, and appears to use images of waxworks previously featured elsewhere online - including some from a 2014 article about the "world's worst wax museum".

And despite the company claiming to have moved to a "new address", many people have been left scratching their heads as they wonder where it was located before.

It has led followers to declare the page a hoax, with one writing: "Got to be a wind up."

Many others have bemoaned the advertised ticket prices, at £47 for adults, £29 for under-16s and £39 for OAPs - although under 2s can visit for free.

One follower wrote: "At the price being charged you won't have many friends unless you are serving finger foods and it is a great exhibition also."

Another said: "£47!!! You joking! I don’t think Madame Tussaud’s charge that much!!!"

But appearing to cotton on to the joke, one person said: "I only have the mental age of a two year old. Can I get in free? If not, the number 7 is unlucky for me, so can I pay you £46 or £48?"

And another joked: "Wow.. can't spell.. no concept of grammar.. price point is outrageous... where can i book a ticket?"

In response to the criticism, Dickinsons promised a £10 discount for any visitors living in a WF postcode.

The page also offers discounted food for carers, NHS staff and key workers, promising a "wax burger and chips" for £24.99.

A spokesperson for Dickinsons of Lupset Wakefield said: "We just want to give people experience they won't forget in a hurry, be the best Horbury Junction based family waxworks they've visited that day and live up to the reputation of budget entertainment.

"Also we haven't had a death since 1997 and are confident that cases of E. Coli from our snack bar will be kept to a minimum."
