New photo project will capture the DIY spirit of Wakefield's musical history
Emily Ryalls, 23, has been commissioned by Creative England to make the document and eventually a photo book to tell the story of an often unsung aspect of the city.
She has put out an appeal for anyone to share old ticket stubs, memorabilia or stories about the musical history of the city.

“We have a rich musical history and I want to celebrate it.”
As a part of the project she interviewed key figures and bands in the city’s music scene.
She said The Cribs in particular told her a lot about the role bars like Players, McDermott’s and Escobar played in the band’s early years.

She welcomed the occasionally mooted idea of converting the former ABC Cinema on Kirkgate into a venue and plans to redevelop Rutland Mills near the Hepworth.
The Rutland Mills – Tileyard North scheme is set to bring new spaces for creative industries.
Emily said: “The ABC as a venue would be incredible. It would be a shame for it to lose all character and for it to lose the foundation it has. It would leave a real hole.
