Plea for donations as Wakefield Christmas Hamper Appeal gets underway
Just a reminder to all of our generous Wakefield Express readers that the 2025 Wakefield Christmas Hamper Appeal is well under way, so we need your help and assistance to make it another successful operation.
The appeal, which is run by Chantry Rotary Club in Wakefield and CAP (Community Awareness Program) in Market Street, with the support of the Wakefield Express, aims to pack and distribute 500 - 600 hampers to families in need in the Five Towns area. Distribution is done in the main by the Children First organisation so that those in most need are properly targeted.

The appeal can only be successful if it gets the tremendous support given by our readers. Our photo this week shows some of the finished hampers donated by readers last year, so hopefully we can match this once again.
For those readers who want to donate finished hampers a list of the food that should be included is below.
For those who would prefer to donate money to the hamper appeal this can be done to CAP at 2-8 Market Street in Wakefield. Finished hampers or food should also be taken to CAP, or to the Redoubt pub on Horbury Road, Wakefield.
A list of food that should be included is as follows:
Tea or coffee, sugar, long life milk, breakfast cereals, tinned potatoes or instant mash, a small selection of tinned vegetables, stuffing, tinned meat, pasta or rice, pasta in sauce, cop soups, gravy mix, tinned fruit, juice or squash, jams, biscuits, children’s Christmas sweets and a box of chocolates.
Please remember that hampers must not include alcohol, or fresh, chilled or frozen goods.
