Popular radio station Ridings FM rebranded to Greatest Hits Radio after 20 years

A popular local radio station has ceased broadcasting after more than 20 years.

Objecting to the decision, one local councillor said the closure of the station would be a "slap in the face" to local residents.

Leeds-based station Radio Aire will also be rebranded to Greatest Hits Radio as part of the move.

Greatest Hits Radio (West Yorkshire) launched on Tuesday, September 1, kicking off with a Top 500 countdown of the country's most popular songs, ahead of new local content programme ‘Cities of Sound’ – a weekly documentary series celebrating the musical heritage of towns, cities and regions across the UK - running over the autumn.
