Pugneys parties 'like Ibiza' as heatwave gatherings attract hundreds

Complaints are mounting over the amount of rubbish left by parties held at the some of the district's beauty spots.

One person who contacted the Express described Pugneys Lake as being like 'Ibiza', with the amount of young people gathering and drinking during the recent heatwave.

And numerous photos have been circulating of the mess left over, with empty beer bottles, cans and general litter being strewn around the site.

There is also evidence of cannabis smoking and the use of nitrous oxide, with the small metal canisters left among the rubbish.

Bins had been used in some cases but were unable to cope with the volume of waste being discarded.

One regular walker around the site said: "I visit Pugneys Lake every night for general exercise and have done so for many years being a local resident.

"In the early stages of lock down a police presence was noticeable, however, during the last three weeks it seems as though Pugneys has turned in Ibiza with groups of 100 or more in close proximity.

"It's apparent that teenagers are purchasing alcohol from Asda on mass.

"I've witnessed Asda trollies being pushed into the lake, underage drinking and drugs being used."

Wakefield Council has been contacted for a response.
