Recycling spiked by 23 per cent during full lockdown
More than 42,756 tonnes of rubbish was diverted away from landfill in the space of five months.
Coun Maureen Cummings, cabinet member for environment, communities and poverty, said: “We want to take this opportunity thank everyone in the district who recycles at home, because it really does make a difference and also to our key workers, who continued to empty the district’s bins whilst the country was in lockdown.

“If everyone tries to recycle more it will really help.”
Plastics bottles, cardboard, glass perfume bottles can be dropped into the brown bins for collection.
