Village pub gets major refurbishment ready to reopen on April 12

A Knottingley pub has been given a makeover by its new managers, just in time for the easing of restrictions on April12.

Owner, Tracey Chambers, has been hands on with the pub for four years on-and-off and has chipped in £4,000 along with an extra £4,000 from Dale and Danny to turn the rundown pub into a place where people can enjoy that first drink in just a couple of week's time.

Dale, who lives in Ferrybridge, said: “We came to the pub in November and the it was rundown and in need of a makeover.

“We decided to redecorate during lockdown so that it will be ready for when we reopen again in April.

“The brewery company was so impressed with what we have done that they are going to fund the renovation of outside the pub.”

Customers will now see some bigs changes, from the battered red and white carpet to a fresh new grey one to match their freshly pained walls and bars and the tables and chairs have been upcycled and updated with a frenchic design.

Paying close attention to detail, it’s not just front of house that has had a revamp.

The kitchen has also been freshly painted and scrubbed down ready to serve carverys every day when it reopens.

The ladies and gents toilets haven’t been forgotten either, with a lovely white and grey colour scheme throughout with new potted flowers in the bathrooms to add that finishing touch.

The pub has also updated their rooms which are available for overnight, short, and long stays in a shabby chic design.

The pub-restaurant has transformed its main room to now cater functions, with the room for private hire. They will also offer complete event packages including, birthday parties, hen parties, baby showers, christenings, and Christmas parties.

From April 4, the Golden Lion will be serving Sunday roasts with a selection of three veg from the local meat and vegetable supplier Nature Taste, using eco friendly and compostable takeout carriers.

The service will be collection only until they can open their doors again on April 12 when Dale and Danny will be welcoming customers for outdoor drinking.

They will close at their discretion, depending on the weather.
