Wakefield company donates £2,500 of school supplies with Love Island star

A Wakefield-based company has donated £2,500 worth of stationery and craft supplies to schools across the north with a familiar face from Love Island.

Public sector procurement firm YPO teamed up with children’s charity the NSPCC for its annual Kindness Challenge, setting up pop-up stationery shops at schools in Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield so pupils could choose free supplies to share with their classmates.

Television personality Shakira Khan joined representatives from YPO and the NSPCC at schools in Manchester, helping children fill branded tote bags with pens, pencils, glue sticks, highlighters and stickers.

Khan rose to prominence on ITV2 dating show Love Island in 2025, finishing as a runner-up.

She has since appeared on Celebrity MasterChef and ITV game show The Box, as well as co-hosting Love Island: The Debrief.

She said: “It’s been amazing to be part of this year’s NSPCC Kindness Challenge.

"Seeing how excited the children have been by the generous donations from YPO has been fantastic, and it’s clear they’re going to be put to good use in classrooms across the city.”

YPO, which has supported the education sector for more than 50 years, is backing the Kindness Challenge for the second consecutive year.

The initiative encourages pupils to carry out acts of kindness while raising money for Childline, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Fay Purves, the NSPCC’s corporate partnership fundraiser, said: “The Kindness Challenge is one of the NSPCC’s key events in schools across the country and right here in Yorkshire, so it’s terrific to have support from a local company.

“We are hugely grateful to everyone at YPO for their continued generosity and support of the NSPCC and our Kindness Challenge.”

The donation forms part of YPO’s wider partnership with the NSPCC.

Simon Hill, YPO’s managing director, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with the NSPCC and support its vital work and services protecting children and helping young people rebuild their lives.

“The Kindness Challenge is one of the many ways we work together to make a positive difference."

Since the partnership began in 2022, the Wakefield organisation said it has helped raise more than £170,000 for the charity through staff fundraising, events and contributions linked to sales of YPO-branded products.
