Matt said: “I wrote the song in the first lockdown, it’s all about the time in which my dad died when I was 16.

“In a way the lockdown helped the writing process as I was forced into spending so much time with myself, so I had more time to think and use my brain for songwriting.

“It was really hard to balance at first, the first two weeks of lockdown nearly sent me mad because I was trying to write music, and go to work all while living my life, but now I’m focusing on music full time.”

Throughout lockdown, with no means of performing live music, Matt turned to Facebook live streams, so people could watch him perform from home.

Shortly after writing ‘How Could You’, Matt got in touch with a Wakefield based producer and mixer, Adam Fiasco, to help him put the track together.

With the help of Matt’s band, ‘How Could You’ was born - a heartfelt country rock staple, driven by shredding guitars and belting vocals.

Matt said: “To have been played on the biggest country radio station in the UK is awesome.

“I think the success has come from a lot of local support, the way people share stuff nowadays is such a massive help.

“Every share makes a difference and I want to thank everyone for their continuous support through a rubbish year.

“Wakefield is great, there are so many amazing musicians in the area and it’s really nice to see some positive stuff and new music coming out of the lockdown.”
