The Wakefield-based freelance marketer regularly blogs on behalf of her clients – but it is her personal musings that have achieved recognition.

Mrs Ainslie’s blog, Perfume and Trumps, takes a look at her life as a parent to two girls and discusses topics such as sibling arguments, relationships and working from home.

Mrs Ainslie, of Church Lane, Outwood, started her blog around a year ago.

The 41-year-old is now down to the last 16 in the fresh voice category of the Brilliance in Blogging awards, run by top parenting blog network BritMums.

She said: “The main purpose of my blog is to make people laugh. It’s a very wry look at my life as a mum, a professional person and a woman in my late 30s – OK, early 40s – and really telling it like it is, hence the byline ‘life, without the smoke and mirrors’.

“The title Perfume and Trumps relates to the fact that life can be a bit smelly and we’re all trying to cover it up somehow as best we can, though often failing.

“I started the blog as an outlet for some creative writing, which is quite different from the marketing blogs and content that I write in my day job.

“I’m really delighted to have been shortlisted and it would be fantastic to be a finalist and go to the award ceremony.”

The fresh voice category showcases the best of new blogging talent. The 16 shortlisted bloggers are now being whittled down to six through a public vote. The final winner will be announced at an awards dinner during the BritMums Live conference in London on Friday, June 20.

Voting closes on Friday, May 16. Visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BiBs2014Shortlist to vote for Mrs Ainslie. Or visit http://perfumeandtrumps.wordpress.com/ to read her blog.
