Person dies after being hit by train between Doncaster and Leeds

A person has died after being hit by a train on the line between Leeds and Doncaster.

It happened at 5.15am this morning (Thursday).

British Transport Police were called to Bentley Railway Station, just north of Doncaster.

Emergency services attended but the person was declared dead at the scene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

There was disruption to LNER services between Doncaster and Leeds for several hours this morning.

Trains were running normally again by midday, National Rail said.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called at 5.15am on 19/11 to Bentley railway station following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

"Officers attended but sadly a person died at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner."
