Thieves broke into a house in the village between 12.30pm and 2.30pm on Wednesday, January 14 and stole a shotgun and a metal gun case.
The gun, pictured, has ducks engraved on one side and pheasants on the other.
Det Insp Steve Greenbank said: “This gun is very distinctive and we are keen to trace it as soon as possible though we would like to stress that we don’t believe this theft poses any immediate risk to the public.
“The robbery occurred in broad daylight and, although the property is in a countryside location, we are hopeful that someone may have seen a car or persons acting suspiciously in the area.
