Council transport team up for national award

Wakefield Council’s Transport Services team has been shortlisted as a finalist for a national award – in recognition of its work during Covid-19 to support vulnerable people in the district.

The team is in the running to be named as Public Service Operator of the Year in the 2020 Logistics UK Logistics Awards.

The council’s transport services has keep established services going dueing the pandemic including waste collection, and other essential services.

It also provided vital support to vulnerable people, including delivering hundreds of food parcels to those most in need.

Coun Jack Hemingway, cabinet member for climate change at Wakefield Council, said: “We are incredibly proud of our staff for working in ways that had never been considered before, in response to the pandemic.

“Colleagues have shown courage, a passion to help and support, and professionalism.

The winners will be announced on 10 December 2020.
