The Red Lion in Pontefract could lose its alcohol licence at the request of the police after several "serious incidents".

Papers released last month showed officers' claims that Covid guidelines were being broken at the pub on several occasions in July and said that the authorities were not informed about fights that had previously taken place at the premises.

A licensing hearing to determine what action, if any, is to be taken against pub was due to be held next Tuesday.

However, the hearing has been delayed at the request of West Yorkshire Police and will now take place on January 25 next week.

In a statement last month in response to the police's claims, the Red Lion's owners, the EI group, said it would "Continue to work with the police and local licensing authority to reach a mutually agreeable outcome".
