Clocks in the UK will go forward at 1am on Sunday, March 29, but contractor Engie have told the council that working restrictions mean they will not be able to send in staff to alter clocks in council buildings.

As a result, the council may be unable to change their clocks to British Summer Time for a number of months.

Coronavirus has struck again but this time on the public clocks across Wakefield Council. This weekend clocks are due to go forward an hour but Wakefield Council has been told by contractor Engie that due to current restrictions in place the work to manually alter the time will not go ahead and clocks will not be changed to British Summer time for some months.

Commenting, GMB Regional Secretary, said: "This virus and the measures required to keep people safe are affecting local services in so many different ways and the routine tasks which workers do, which are taken for granted, are now seen for the value they bring to society.

“We all wish the clocks could be put forward a few months this weekend so we can be over this terrible time. Sadly, in Wakefield the public clocks won’t be going forward at all on Sunday."
