The district's Local Plan, which has been devised by Wakefield Council, has earmarked sites which may be developed before 2036.

Around 1,400 homes a year are likely to be built across the area over the next decade and a half.

Work on the plan, which the government demands from all local authorities, started two years ago and members of the public were previously able to have a say on it at the start of 2019.

In response to that, dozens of changes have been made, with some sites now under consideration for development and others having been removed. All of amendments are detailed here.

The plan also specifies plots of land where industrial development may take place.

Announcing the consultation, council leader Denise Jeffery said: "It is absolutely necessary that we have a Local Plan to future-proof our district so that we can continue to realise economic growth and development, whilst also improving the environment.

"The plan will also support the district’s economic recovery from Covid-19 by bringing employers and investment into the area and therefore creating jobs for local people.

"I believe we have found the right mix of components in this draft plan to make this all happen, but we will consider comments received during the consultation period to make it more robust, if possible."

Members of the public are able to take part from today for the next six weeks here.

Following the process, the draft plan will be submitted to the government for approval and is then likely to be formally adopted in early 2022.
