Plans revealed for 91 homes on land off busy Wakefield road

Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey has applied for permission to build 91 homes on land off Leeds Road, Newton Hill, close to the junction with Silver Street.

In documents submitted with the application, Taylor Wimpey propose a development comprised of six two bedroom, 55 three bedroom and 40 four bedroom houses, with a mixture of terraced, semi-detached and detached properties.

Each house would have parking for between one and three vehicles, depending on the size of the property, with a total of 219 spaces on the estate.

The application says residents on the site would be well served by local shops, schools and nurseries, as well as "a number of key employment locations for residents of the site including Wakefield 41 Industrial Estate, Snowhill Business and Retail Park, Pinderfields Hospital and Wakefield city centre."

It is understood that an existing bungalow on Leeds Road would be demolished to make way for an entry road.

According to plans unveiled this week, Leeds Road could be in line for a major revamp, with priority given to cyclists and buses. But, if approved, the scheme will not be completed until 2023.

The area of land had previously been allocated for housebuilding under Wakefield Council's Local Plan, which sets out plans for the district until 2026.
