The Leisure and Wellbeing Hub, which is officially known as Aspire@ThePark, is under construction at Pontefract Park.

It had initially been expected to open this year, but the finishing date was pushed back after the site was hit by a major flood last year.

But new video footage of the site reveals that construction reveals that work is well underway, with power to the building and work almost complete in the tennis courts.

The next stage of work will include installation of the lifts, moveable floor to the studio pool and the bouldering wall, as well as installing doors and decoration.

Councillor Jacquie Speight, Wakefield Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: “It is going to be fantastic facility, offering great opportunities to enjoy fitness, leisure and relaxation to communities across our district.

“With the challenges of Covid -19, the construction company are doing an amazing job to deliver this project, whilst following government guidance so that all those working on site stay safe.”

A cafe and car parking will also be made available to visitors.
