Power cuts affects thousands of homes

Northern Powergrid said 2,576 properties with WF8 and WF9 postcodes, along with the Doncaster area were hit by the outage shortly before 5am.

It said engineers were working to repair an overhead cable and fully restore power, which it hoped to do by 11am.

According to its live map, power had been restored to the vast majority of homes by 6.30am, with fewer than 10 still affected.
