Well, if you are Rob Turton and Chris Cable you go out and buy one.

The pair have stumped up the cash for the Robin Hood on Church Road, Altofts.

Rob said: “I guess the story starts when myself and Chris, who are two local lads. We were fed up about not having a good drinking establishment in our local village.

“We somehow managed to buy a pub from Admiral Taverns that actually was not for sale back in January this year.

“The Robin Hood had been a typical tenanted pub lacking love, lighting, heat and more importantly good beer.”

So when we got the keys in January we shut temporarily replacing everything from the cellar up, including six real ale handpulls.

After a deep clean and a lick of paint, the duo threw open the doors on Friday, January 23.

Rob added: “Boy what a night that was. Since that point we have gone from strength-to-strength, having had more than 100 guest beers all from Yorkshire micro breweries.”

They’ve had beers from just down the road from Revolutions, of Whitwood, who have also held a meet the brewer night there.

Rob added: “What’s even better is that most of the breweries we have stocked have visited the Robin Hood to sample our beers.”

But it is not all about the ale as the pub owners have decided to provide good quality wine. Their selection, from Prosecco to house wines, are provided by Majestic Wines.

The snacks is also varied. You would expect crisps but what about olives, pickled eggs and even cockles.

Music is also on the menu. Earlier this month Peculiar Blue took part in a monthly music and real ale night.

Rob and Chris have saved the best until last.

Rob said: “Not wanting to stand still, this month we created 85m square blocked paved patio and new benches. The work was also in preparation for our three barrel micro brewery which we are currently having manufactured which will sit in a very unique steam punk designed shipping container at the end of our patio.

“Also starting later this month is the replacement of the roadside bay windows and facia boards, all in hardwood. Then we will re-render and paint the pub to bring it back to its former glory. We are two local lads who have returned a pub back to the community.”
