Resident escapes house fire which destroyed kitchen

Crews were called to Rose Farm Rise in Altofts at 3.43am this morning where the entire kitchen had been consumed by flames.

Smoke detectors were triggered and gave the occupier the chance to get out of the burning building.

Firefighters from Normanton, Castleford and Wakefield used a hose reel to douse the flames.

The occupier was given a precautionary check-up but did not attend hospital.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
