A robber knocked an elderly woman to the ground before running off with her handbag.

The 77-year-old victim was walking with her husband from Marshall Street to Ackroyd Street in Morley on Friday.

The couple were approached by a man at around 5.20pm.

He snatched the woman’s handbag, knocking her to the floor, and took the bag before heading off towards Commercial Street.

The woman needed hospital treatment for injuries to her shoulder.

The suspect is described was 6ft tall, aged between 22 and 26, slim and he had short cropped blonde hair.

He was wearing a black hooded top with a small emblem on the left chest area, dark corduroy style trousers and black trainers.

Police have released an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the robbery.

Detective Constable Steve Ellis of Leeds Districts Neighbourhood Crime Team said: “This incident has clearly been a frightening experience for the victim, who was knocked to the floor with such force that she has received a number of injuries.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area and seen the person in the efit, or witnessed the incident to come forward to the police. Enquiries are ongoing.”
