Sally makes seamless transition

Sally Sallett, 66, has been made an associate member of the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) after submitting a series of floral shots.

The judges were so impressed by her panel of 15 photographs that they have retained them to demonstrate “distinctions success” in promoting RPS activities.

The grandmother-of-four from St John’s, said: “I entered in the creative category as the images are not ‘straight’ photos but contain various textures and overlays. All aspects of the images were scrutinised, print quality, content, technical expertise and originality. I’m proud of the achievement and grateful to my husband Peter and colleagues from Wakefield Camera Club for their support and advice.”

Mrs Sallett, who runs The Fashion Workroom in Pontefract, has always enjoyed taking photos but has been a serious enthusiast for about six years.

Her hobby developed after a chance encounter while shopping. She said: “I only popped into the Ridings for something from TK Maxx. On the way out I noticed Wakefield Camera Club had an exhibition and I stopped to have a look. John Bickerdike, ARPS DPAGB, chatted to me and invited me along to the club. The first time I attended was nearly the last, all old men with beards and long lenses. But I persevered and since then, as the club’s first woman president, I’ve tried to encourage more younger members and more women too.”
