Gloucestershire’s acclaimed Festival Players were due to perform Henry IV, against the dramatic backdrop of Sandal Castle on Friday, June 26.

But Wakefield Council has cancelled the show after not enough people booked in to see it.

A council spokesperson said: “Unfortunately we have had to cancel the upcoming production of Shakespeare’s Henry IV. Whilst we appreciate that some people will be disappointed by this, it is not possible to bring you this production due to lower than expected ticket sales.

“Wakefield Council is committed to bringing high quality theatre and music productions to Sandal Castle and our other events at Sandal Castle this summer remain unaffected by this decision.

“Anyone that has bought tickets already should contact the venue they purchased them from for a full refund.”
