Schools to get share of £367m repair fund

Four schools in Wakefield and three in Castleford have been named as beneficiaries of the Condition Improvement Fund 2015/16.

Two schools in Pontefract, one in Hemsworth and one in Knottingley will also receive some funding.

The money will be spent on improving more than 1,000 school buildings across the country.

The details of how much each will get have not yet been released.

Each is expected to receive tens if not hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Education secretary Nicky Morgan said: “The money provided through the condition improvement fund will help ensure that even more children have access to the best possible facilities and learn in an environment that gives them the knowledge and skills to succeed in the global race.”

The schools and projects are:

New College - asbestos removal

Castleford Academy - improve heating

Jerry Clay Academy - replace water tanks

Gawthorpe Community Academy - roof repairs

Freeston Academy - roof repairs and upgrade toilet facilities

Knottingley St Botolph’s Academy - roof repairs

St Michael’s Academy - roof repairs

Castleford Park Junior Academy - replace heating pipes and hot water boiler

St Helen’s Primary School - roof repairs

St Giles’ Junior and Infants School - upgrade toilet facilities

Three Lane Ends Community Primary School - replace windows
