Slideshow: Wakefield Hospice’s Colour Run

More than 1,300 runners plus thousands more fans and families turned up to splat, dash and raise cash at the Thornes Park event which was opened by BBC Look North presenter Amy Garcia.

Event fundraiser Danielle Norman, said: “We are delighted that so many local runners have joined us to get messy, have fun and raise thousands of pounds for patient care here in Wakefield. We would like to thank all of our supporters who made this happen especially the 80 plus volunteers who gave their time and our sponsors Trinity Walk.”

This year there were two fun runs, a 3km and a 5km route, plus a mascot race beforehand. It including Wakefield Hospice’s Treacle the Bear and Trinity Walk’s blue teddy bear, Trinny.

Cormac Hamilton, centre manager at Trinity Walk said: “The Colour Run was not only a real success, but a real spectacle too. The atmosphere was brilliant and everyone had lots of fun, especially those covered in paint. Trinity Walk has been proud to back this event and supporting Wakefield Hospice in the vital work and care they provide.

The event had a real sense of community, looked spectacular and our retailers and local businesses involved on the day really added something too.”

The total money raised is yet to be calculated. Lots more sponsorship from runners is expected to come in after the event.
