The event saw more than 60 surfers take to the water, many of them wearing a variety of 1970s and 1980s disco gear.

The windsurfers were joined by kayakers and people on paddleboards and dinghies. The event was organised by parents and instructors from the Pugney’s Pirates T15 Windsurfing Team as part of the national 2014 Sunrise Sunset fundraiser. The annual event is held to raise funds for charity Watersports for Cancer Research (W4CR), which was set up by windsurfers to raise funds for cancer research and support.

The aim of the national event is to surf from sunrise to sunset, but the Pugneys event began at 10am once the park was open.

The day also included trial windsurfing, sailing lessons and fun races.

The best dressed surfers received prizes, donated by Juice Boardsports - which also provided demonstration equipment for people to try - and RoboWindsurf.
