Sudden death of loving mum

TRIBUTES have been paid to a loving grandmother who died suddenly from a heart condition that would have been impossible to diagnose.

Michelle Scott, of Priory Estate, South Elmsall, died on October 13 after developing a heart condition which had no symptoms. Her family have paid tribute to their loving mother, grandmother and daughter, who “always had a smile on her face.”

Ms Scott, who was a carer at Roop Cottage Care Home, Fitzwilliam, had three children, Emma, 26, Zoe, 23 and Jake, 16, and doted on granddaughter Eva-Jane, 22 months. She was a keen gardener and had a passion for soul and Motown music.

Daughter Emma Scott said: “She never got to meet her grandson Fletcher, who is five weeks old, and my sister Zoe is expecting too. She would have been so happy. She loved spending time with her granddaughter, the last thing she did was give her a bottle.”

Ms Scott’s mother Linda Morris, 68, of Hill Estate, Upton, said: “You couldn’t have wished to meet a nicer person. She was one of the best.”

The 45-year-old, who taught karate at St Mary’s Church in South Elmsall, had been at home with her partner Michael Neil looking after granddaughter Eva-Jane when she suddenly became breathless and nauseous.

Paramedics were called but they were unable to save her. A post-mortem report showed she had died from myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle.

In a statement read at Wakefield Coroner’s last Thursday, Mr Neil said he was “shocked and mystified as to why she died at such a young age.”

She had been fit and well, but was prone to abscesses on her chest and stomach and had suffered from depression following the death of her father Robert in June 2010.

Recording a verdict of death by natural causes, Coroner David Hinchliff said: “Myocarditis is not something that a doctor would find with screens or tests.

“It can be a bug that is picked up or a virus. It may be that Michelle did not even know that she had that, she just felt off colour for a day or so. Michelle was just very, very unlucky.”
