Wakefield Council shut Pontefract Swimming Pool and Castleford Swimming Pool on Monday because of a technical problem which could affect the water quality.

The pools in both towns reopened today (Wednesday).

Karen Collins, service director for culture and sport at Wakefield Council, said: “Due to a technical problem, potentially effecting the quality of the water, both Castleford and Pontefract pools had to be temporarily closed.

“We apologise for any disruption or inconvenience this causes and can assure customers.”

Pontefract Swimming Pool, on Stuart Road, and Castleford Swimming Pool, on Aketon Road, are normally open Monday to Thursday from 7am-9.30pm and 7am-8.30pm on Friday and for reduced hours at the weekend.

Swimming pools in Featherstone and Knottingley remained open as normal.
