Teacher banned after sending “sexually motivated” messages

Daniel Van Loo swapped photographs and “encouraged an inappropriate relationship” with a 15-year-old girl, a disciplinary panel heard.

Mr Van Loo admitted the conversations were inappropriate and fell short of what was expected professionally.

The National College for Teaching and Leadership found him guilty of unacceptable professional conduct at a hearing last month.

Contact began between Mr Van Loo and the student when she asked him for help with her studies.

Mr Van Loo then gave her his username for messaging app Snapchat to the student and they began sharing a series of “flirtatious and intimate” messages via Facebook, Snapchat and email.

The panel banned him from teaching indefinitely.
